to come of age in a dry place - a ficmix

Medium: Television
Fandom: Torchwood
Subject: Jack Harkness
Title: To Come Of Age In A Dry Place: a young!Jack fanmix
Warnings: Spoilers for the whole Gray arc, some language.
Notes: A concept mix exploring what Jack's childhood on the Boeshane Peninsula would have been like: losing his brother and picking up the pieces, the rowdy teenage years and, finally, getting accepted into the Academy.

15 songs, each accompanied by a short ficlet. (Names have been kept the same even though they obviously wouldn't have been calling themselves Hart and Harkness back in those days, just because it was too complicated to change anything.)

3:14 A.M. - a mix

Medium: General.
Subject: Creepy songs.
Title: 3:14 A.M.
Warnings: Possibly some objectionable subject matter in Frankie Teardrop.
Notes: A mix more suited to the dark days of late October than the dog days of summer, I think. Enjoy anyway: an atmospheric mix of songs to keep you up at night. About half instrumental tracks to half with vocals. Includes tracks by Tom Waits, Fever Ray, The Beatles and more.

(... hey, Revolution 9 is terrifying. Don't even lie to yourself.)

'the organ caries a hint of the carnival, both childlike and darkly disturbing'

You should see this movie. Sure, it doesn't have 90's Val Kilmer in leather pants, but it's good.

Watch it.

The Devil You Know - Fanmix

Medium: General
Subject: The Devil
Title: The Devil You Know
Warnings: Pseudo-religious themes; language in some songs. If you take religion really very seriously and tend to get offended easily at the subject, maybe better to give this one a miss.
Notes: after the cut. (coverart [minus the words, they're mine] © dobro_pobedit )

who's that young girl all in flames, dragging behind him a sack of chains

A LIMERICK

There was a man long ago,

who resided in his local château.

Sat did he in the chair by the fire,

his good looks passing women did admire,

little did they know, upstairs in his chamber and handcuffed to the bed was a sire!

 ANOTHER LIMERICK

Late last Tuesday Granny Walker was out walkin',

she stopped everyone she met with her talkin'.

Alas, Johnny Gee had somewhere to be,

Jude Law had a spot on Celebrity TV,

so he pushed Granny Walker into a garden gnome and made her an amputee.

I'm also working on another mix, just as an update.

Writer's Block: Please don't call it a comeback

Which famous or infamous historical person would you bring back to life, and why?

I'm so tempted to say Freddie Mercury, but I don't want him to keep singing and singing and singing and eventually go downhill. It would be fantastic to hear his voice again though.

Instead, I think I'll say Jesus. That would be interesting.

Writer's Block: Long ago and far away

Do you wish you had grown up in another time and/or place? if so, when, where, and why?

For sure. For all that we call it the Information Age, ignorance is abound in ways it's never been before. The knowledge is there, rendering us capable to make it a place worth living in, but we don't. It's a confused time and I'd like something a bit simpler in history's complex way. The 60's would have been fun in oh-so-many ways :D, but 17th-century England would have to take the cake for me. Opulence and extravagance were the keys of the age and besides, the chance to real-life fangirl Oscar Wilde is too good to pass up.

Perhaps A Better World Is Drawing Near - fanmix

Medium: General
Subject: Sad Songs
Title: Perhaps A Better World Is Drawing Near
Warnings: May cause excessive moping, tears and consumption of tissues.
Notes: I was feeling down, so I figured I'd share the pain. 27 (I really tried to narrow it down, but I ended up with an obscene amount of songs anyway) of the saddest songs I know, for your listening pleasure. Credit to my friend ContagiousPixie for the beautiful cover art.

Also, first fanmix and x-posted to [info]fanmix
